Enhancing the Value of the

Girl Child

At Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), we believe that empowering young girls transforms entire communities. The Enhancing the Value of the Girl Child (EvoGC) programme, run in partnership with Jhpiego, tackles deep-rooted gender norms by starting where change is most powerful—within the hearts and minds of youth.

Building on our existing Life Skills Education platform, EvoGC creates safe spaces for honest conversations about gender equality, child marriage, and teenage pregnancy. Students and teachers learn together, challenging old beliefs and embracing new possibilities.

By institutionalising EvoGC as a credit-based course for undergraduates, KISS has woven gender sensitisation directly into the fabric of its academic framework—ensuring these lessons will shape generations to come.

Why This Matters

For many tribal communities, traditional gender roles still limit opportunities for girls. This affects health, education, economic independence, and leadership.

EvoGC addresses these barriers through culturally relevant, locally grounded interventions—proving that equality is not just an ideal, but an achievable reality.
